Dr. Mike Baltz

Mike is the former southern Illinois Area Director for the Nature Conservancy and is currently the Let the Sun Shine In program coordinator. He has a Master’s degree in Environmental Science from Miami University and a PhD from the University of Missouri. His research area of expertise is migrant songbird ecology and conservation.

David Allen

David was born and raised in Saline County, IL. He holds a B.S. in Forestry from SIU, and an M.S. in Forestry from Penn State. He has spent 5 seasons fighting fires with the forest service, and 29 years as the District Forester with IDNR at the Dixon Springs facility. He has worked in numerous states and on many federal and state grants. David currently works to develop and implement community wildfire protection plans. 

 

 

Zack Stawicki 

Zack is an Eagle Scout originally from Elk Grove Village, Illinois. He moved to Southern Illinois to get a bachelor’s degree in forestry from SIUC. He has served as the student forester for Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center and Saluki Experimental Forest, as well as serving as the student lead for the SIUC Fire Dawgs while earning his degree. Additionally, Zack also completed a summer internship with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources – Division of Natural Heritage. We are happy to have Zack as the coordinator of the Southern Illinois Prescribed Burn Association.

Megan Gulik

Megan graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, with her Bachelor of Science in Forestry, in December 2020. She specialized in wildlife habitat management and conservation. Among her many achievements, she served as the president of the Forestry Club during her undergrad, as well as being employed as a forestry resident at Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center and a clerical student worker for the College of Agriculture, Life, & Physical Sciences. Her experience makes her the perfect fit as the volunteer coordinator of the Forest Restoration Support Team.
